To make matters worse, I started watching horror movies and scary TV shows incessantly.
I couldn't help myself; for some perverse reason, I decided that the more fictional
monsters I confronted, the less frightened I'd be when the real thing eventually showed up in
my bedroom.
Unfortunately, this had the opposite desired effect, and every night in the late 70's I lay awake,
anxiously anticipating the nocturnal attacks of.....
the aliens from Close Encounters...
ghosts!....
the "reverse mermaid" from Night Gallery....
the rakshasa from Kolchak: The Night Stalker....
Misquamacus, the deformed medicine man from The Manitou....
the man-headed dog from the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.... just to name a few...
